"For me, art has never been confined to the final silhouette of a bag.

Art is the entire arc: the whisper of an idea, the sketches in the margins, the tools warming in a craftsman’s hands, the breath between each step. Maison Motema was never about creating objects; it is about honoring where beauty begins, and where it lands. Our artisans, and women. When I first entered our workshops in Dakar, I understood that the soul of this brand lives in the artisans. Their movements, their silence, their laughter — their devotion. I felt a responsibility to document these moments. To follow the process, witness it, and preserve it. Because craft without memory disappears, and memory without testimony fades.

As artists, we do not simply create objects — we create continuity. We become archivists of craft, guardians of stories, and witnesses to the people who make beauty possible. Maison Motema exists to ensure that their mastery is never erased, never overlooked, and never unnamed. This work is not about taking from artisans — it is about building with them. Every image, every gesture, every finished piece is a collaboration. A shared language between my artistic vision and their inherited knowledge.
